Job Details
Overworked? Undervalued? Feeling stuck?
You’ve already put in the hard work—completing your ACA Certificate Level exams—and now you’re looking for the right firm to support your progression, give you variety, and respect your work-life balance.
Maybe you’re feeling overworked, stuck in a firm that offers little flexibility, or frustrated by a lack of variety or support for your studies.
At Goodman Jones LLP, we believe you should be able to train, grow, and develop in a supportive, professional environment—without sacrificing your personal time or well-being.
We invest in our trainees and promote from within, so you’ll be given the tools, experience, and opportunities to qualify and progress in your career.
Sometimes, the best way to understand what it’s like to work somewhere is to hear from those who already do. So, we asked some of our brilliant Semi-Seniors to reflect on their experiences. Here’s what they had to say:
Poppy joined us from a Top 10 firm 18 months ago. She wanted broader sector experience, the chance to work across the whole audit file, and to be part of a smaller, close-knit team.
"I’ve definitely got all of that! I’ve built great friendships, I’m off on holiday with two team members next month, and I’ve even led my first audit!"
Benedict came from a small regional practice and was looking for variety and progression.
"You get exposure to so many different types of audits—from charities to PFI audits—and you’re not just stuck doing the same testing over and over again. You’re also not just a resource number; you actually get to know everyone, and the social side is great!"
Rachel & Lucy started with us as AAT trainees and have since transitioned onto the ACA training contract.
"One of the best things about Goodman Jones is that everyone knows everyone. The new office has made it even easier to connect with other teams and departments."
Rachel also highlighted the strong support system from our Audit Managers:
"There’s a great team of Audit Managers—you get really well briefed before an audit, and the support while you’re working is excellent. You do need to be good at managing your time and staying organised, but you’re never left on your own to work things out."
This is what working at Goodman Jones is all about—a supportive team, real variety, and a culture where you’re valued and encouraged to progress.
What Does the Role Look Like?
Depending on your experience, it could be 100% Audit or 80% Audit, 20% Accounts & Corporate Tax—a varied role that keeps things interesting.
- Leading smaller audits – Taking responsibility for end-to-end audit engagements, from planning to completion.
- Building technical expertise – Working across different industries and risk profiles, using software like CaseWare and Data Snipper.
- Hands-on experience – Conducting detailed audit testing, risk assessments, and financial analysis. Client interaction – Acting as a key contact for assigned clients, responding to queries, and managing expectations.

With a diverse client base—including owner-managed businesses, international subsidiaries, charities, PFIs and start-ups—you’ll gain exposure to a broad range of sectors, keeping your work both challenging and rewarding.
