Your opportunity

Do you want to pursue a career in finance? This opportunity would be perfect for those who have completed their A Levels and are thinking of taking a year out to explore their options, or for those currently at university and would like to undertake a placement year as part of their course.

How you will make a difference

  • You will join a team of professionals who will guide you and help you develop your skills and knowledge while working on real projects and real clients. These roles are ideal for people who like problem-solving and can adapt to changes. At BKL, we appreciate and value individuals who can work autonomously but still collaborate with a wider team. You will have the opportunity to learn and grow as an accountant, while delivering high quality work as part of your team (or pod as we call them)

What you can expect:

  • A year’s training programme to provide an insight into the AAT or ACA pathways within the audit department.
  • The programme would start with an orientation day where you would get to know your colleagues and meet the leadership team at BKL.
  • You will be assigned a ‘mentor’ for the duration of the programme, being a current manager in the audit team. They will be on hand to provide support and guidance about embarking on a career at BKL.
  • Structured training based on the ‘BKL Experience’ (career development ladder) and exposure to exciting projects and on-site client work where possible. Introduction to the audit sector within accountancy, and understanding the full audit process.
  • Assist the seniors within your team and learn from their experience.
  • Be assigned to one of our industry-related pod systems where you will work with various industries within different sectors, including Music & Entertainment, Property, Financial Services and Not for Profit.

You will be ideal for this role if you…

  • Have GCSE Grade 5 and above in English and Maths GCSE.
  • Have B, B, C or above at A Level.
  • Have alternative qualifications equivalent to the above.
  • Are comfortable with studying whilst working. Have great organisational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Are able to learn and receive continuous feedback on how to improve and grow in your accountancy journey.

We know you have a lot to offer, which is why we want to give you the freedom to thrive no matter who you are or what your background is. You will have every opportunity to use your creativity in how you approach your work and the support to innovate.

Inclusion, diversity, and talent development are a fundamental aspect of who we are, and we welcome applications from candidates who share and champion these values. You will play an integral part in helping to make BKL a great place to work with a sense of belonging for everyone.

High challenge, high support

If you enjoy problem-solving and a fast-changing environment, you will thrive in this role.

As in all BKL roles, you will be able to take a flexible approach: balancing independent work with teamwork, and remote working with time in the office with colleagues.

We’re proud to be one of the few Certified B Corporations in the accountancy sector. In joining us, you’ll become part of a business that’s committed to balancing profit and purpose.

Take your Next Step

If this sounds like the role for you, and BKL sounds like the place for you, we’d be delighted to talk with you about the career you could build here. That begins with an application via our jobs portal...

Part of how we’ll get to know you, and make sure we’d work well together, is aptitude & psychometric testing during our selection process.

The start date of this role is as soon as possible... so we’re ready when you are!

We’re not the only Top 50 firm of chartered accountants and tax advisers you’ll find in this guide. Nor are we the only people offering graduates and school leavers exciting opportunities to work with clients across a range of sectors during ACA training. So who are we and why should you choose us? We like having bright, hard-working trainees join us each year and if you’re one of them, your colleagues will help you to give your best. ‘High challenge, high support’ is the balance we aim for. By making a difference to you, we’re helping you do the same for our clients and communities. As long as you’re giving your best, we want you to feel your best. To help us keep wellbeing as a priority at BKL, we support Mind and they’ve awarded us bronze in their Workplace Wellbeing Index. Inclusion matters to us too. The more diverse we are – in people, experiences and ideas – the better we become. We’re working with Inclusive Employers on this, to make sure that whatever your background when you join us, you feel a sense of belonging and a desire to get involved in the life of BKL. Even before you qualify, you can look forward to progression: not just in the money you earn but in the recognition you earn. We’ll help you develop as a professional and as a person. If you’re now thinking about applying for a role at BKL, what are we looking for? We want individuals who can show drive, ambition and commitment. It doesn’t matter where you’ve come from; it’s all about where you’re heading and what you want to do. If you’re ready to put in the effort and the commitment, we’re ready to work with you.
