Trainee accountant Trainee accountants work as part of our audit team delivering client work.  Alongside gaining practical work experience, they study for the ICAEW ACA qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake client work as directed, mainly this will involve statutory audits but may also encompass other client assignments such as compliance tax, due diligence, VAT, internal audit and training activities
  • Follow the firm’s policies and procedures on all work to achieve high standards and deliver an excellent service to clients.
  • Adhere to firm’s standards on independence and professional ethics.
  • Keep seniors, managers and partners regularly informed of activities, capacity and progress on assignments to ensure that time is fully utilised
  • Participate in meetings as appropriate, playing an active part in internal briefing and de-brief sessions
  • Once initial experience has been gained, provide effective supervision and training to less experienced trainee accountants who are undertaking audit work
  • Where required, work alone at client’s premises with minimal supervision, presenting completed audit file for manager review, which includes management letter
  • Maintain all required records for the ICAEW training file and submitting this for review every 6 months during the training agreement. 
  • Willingness to respond to feedback and update records as required. Ensure ICAEW training file is updated every six months, as stipulated by ICAEW Training Regulations
  • Fulfil the obligations outlined in the training agreement regarding study progress; including attending all in classroom courses at our Learning provider First Intuition Central London, completing all classroom tests and mock exams as indicated by the course programme, approach study with enthusiasm and commitment, keep relevant managers informed of progress, follow the study pathway designed by the ACA Training Manager.
  • Fulfil the obligations required by the Level 7 Accountancy Apprenticeship; including 4-weekly updates to apprenticeship learning logs, ability to reflect on progress in completing quarterly skills scans against apprenticeship criteria, work to meet development points and willingness to seek help and guidance where needed, attending quarterly reviews with skills and development coach, responding promptly to and meeting all submission deadlines as set out by your coach.

Attend all internal training sessions, applying commitment to learn and seek opportunities to apply new knowledge effectively in the workplace.

Take responsibility for your own Training, asking questions, seeking feedback and learning from colleagues.

Person specification Qualifications

Essential

  • British university degree at class 2:2 or above (or equivalent), or alternatively have passed AAT finals (Professional Diploma, level 4) If you have a 2:2 degree, you must meet our requirements at both GCSE and A-level as set out below. If you have a 2:1 degree (or above) or have passed AAT finals (Professional Diploma, level 4), you must meet either our GCSE or A-level requirements. Our requirements below degree level are as follows:
  • Pre-2017 UCAS tariff: 300 UCAS points (or equivalent) at A-level. New UCAS tariff: 120 UCAS points. We only include a candidate's top three A-levels and we do not include General Studies when assessing UCAS points. At least five GCSEs or O-levels (or equivalent) at grades A or B, and including Maths and English
