Job Details

We are a well established Oxfordshire accountancy firm with a diversely talented team and client base. Recent growth has driven the need for us to expand our team once again, so we are looking for a bright individual to join us as an ACA (ICAEW) trainee taking up this great funded opportunity.

The Firm
We are a fairly small firm, set in a beautiful rural business park on the edge of Oxford, but we are not your typical local accountancy practice. We do offer a full array of typical accountancy services including preparation of financial statements, tax and advisory work but also provide our clients with other specialised areas, such as audit, M&As, R&D, wealth tax and start-ups which are often reserved for larger sized firms.

We have a broad client base covering many different industries and sectors. This diverse offering allows us to provide a fantastic training environment where trainees can develop and apply their understanding of accountancy to many different sectors. Trainees are not just onboarded to work in one sector developing solely one aspect of accountancy. We see this as an ideal setting for any ambitious ACA trainee, and expose colleagues to a variety of areas that the bigger firms cannot offer. One day you can be auditing, the next looking at IHT planning, which allows you to put the knowledge gained through all your studies into practice. We truly believe this is the best environment for a trainee to develop and learn their chosen profession for whatever the future may hold for them.

We pride ourselves on nurturing trainees and offering great potential for career and salary growth. We like to promote and regularly review performances and role specifications, so that people do not get lost or stuck in one position.

The Role
We are offering a training agreement, the fundamentals of which are set out by ICAEW, where you will work towards becoming a Chartered Accountant. We are offering a challenging and exciting role where you can learn and work simultaneously. During technical working days, you will be exposed to all areas of the practice. You will work with all team members and be able to learn first-hand from highly experienced colleagues.

To progress with a career in accountancy, knowledge and training is required, but communication, attention to detail and other soft skills are vital. You will also quickly learn the importance of communication with clients, an area that we pride ourselves on. Our ability to expose trainees to client facing situations from an early time ensures that these key skills are developed outside of the classroom.

Tuition is a fundamental part of the training agreement and we offer a full study support package. We know that all students are different, so we allow flexibility to arrange classroom tuition with the provider of your choice and location that most suits you. We have found this allows students to select the training provider most suited to their personality and learning styles which promotes exam success.
We are also happy for student to arrange their own study timetable, at a pace to fit in with the work schedule, which is often highly valued by our past and present trainees.

The individual
We are looking for a talented graduate, school leaver or AAT member (meeting ICAEW entry routes requirements) with excellent communication skills and a desire to train. An accounting degree/qualification is not a prerequisite, any previous accounting experience would be valued. You will need to be a self-starter, be determined and motivated to pass exams and achieve your goal of completing the training agreement.

We will invest time in your learning experiences, give the support and opportunities necessary for you to succeed, but you must be driven and committed in order to become a Chartered Accountant and thrive in our unique setting. You have to be someone who thrives off face to face communication and talking with clients on the phone as well as creating positive working relationships with all office workers.
