About us
We are an independent UK-based firm on a mission to be the ‘go to’ providers of forensic accounting, investigation, business valuation and tax dispute resolution services within the SME and mid-corporate sector. We work closely with lawyers, public sector bodies, other professionals and businesses acting in expert witness or advisory capacity in contentious and non-contentious matters.
The role
We are looking for a school leaver (with A Levels) who is a driven individual with a genuine desire to pursue a career in forensic accounting and financial investigations.
This is a trainee role and, as being an ICAEW approved training provider, we will facilitate the necessary training and support to attain professional qualification from ICAEW whilst also providing on the job training to become a forensic accountant and, ultimately, an expert in this field.
Trainee will have the opportunity to work closely with a leading expert and forensic accountant, and gain first-hand technical and commercial experience. The trainee will be exposed to a range of cases/projects in the following areas:
- Criminal defence
- Pre-trial criminal investigations (e.g. fraud, money laundering, theft, modern-day slavery)
- Post-trial confiscation proceedings under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002
- Civil investigations under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 (e.g. unexplained wealth orders, asset freezing orders, cash forfeiture etc).
- Commercial disputes
- Partnership, shareholder and probate disputes
- Loss of profits and business interruption claims
- Warranties/SPA disputes
- Completion accounts disputes
- Matrimonial disputes
- Company and share valuations
- Forensic analysis/investigation to identify income and assets
- Tax implications on split of assets
- Investigations
- Tax investigations
- Accounting investigations
- Fraud investigations
Role responsibilities
- Use forensic accounting tools to convert and interrogate data
- Conduct research for use in cases/projects (e.g. researching Companies House, Land Registry and other subscription based source of information)
- Verification of data to source documentation
- Conduct financial review and analysis and advising the forensic accountant on patterns and areas of further investigation
- Basic financial modelling
- Apply basic understanding of accounting and tax rules/principles Verbal and written communication of findings
- Prepare financial information and analysis for use in Court cases and board meetings
- Assist in drafting expert reports and conducting quality control checks
- Attend client meetings
- Administrative tasks (scanning, printing and copying)
- Support in scoping new cases/projects and preparing fee estimates
- Support in firm marketing activities
- Attend networking events
Role requirements
- Grades BBC in A Levels or equivalent
- Grade 6 or above in GCSE English and Maths
- Previous experience of using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
- Analytical, methodical and logical mindset with attention to detail
- Strong numerical, verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work towards tight deadlines
- Proactive with good interpersonal skills
- Fluent in English
